Over twenty years of GMAT, GRE, and EA experience, Mark has taught thousands of students through courses, private tutoring, and coaching. They also have extensive curriculum design experience—among the courses they've built: Manhattan Prep's Advanced GMAT Course, GMAC's Business Fundamentals Statistics Course, and numerous college-level mathematics and statistics courses.

Mark holds a B.S. in mathematics from Caltech and an M.S. (also in mathematics!) from the University of Washington, but somewhere along the path to academia, they realized their true passion was teaching (not publishing research papers only six other people would ever read 😅). For the past fifteen years, they have been a professor of mathematics and statistics at Shoreline College, teaching all levels of college math and statistics. And they still take the tests: current scores are GMAT 775 (Quant 90, Verbal 90, Data Insights 86) and GRE 340 (with a perfect 170 on both Quant and Verbal).

The name for this venture comes from "deliberate practice": progress comes from focused work on the right things, honestly reviewed. In Mark's classroom and one-on-one sessions, that means a comfortable place to explore new ideas and make plenty of mistakes—the best way to spot exactly how to improve—while staying genuinely challenged and aimed at the bigger takeaways that build mastery rather than rote memorization. Scores don't move in straight lines, and a good plan expects that: the flat weeks are consolidation, not failure.

When not teaching, Mark loves all of the stereotypical Pacific Northwest activities you would probably guess: hiking, backpacking, paddle boarding, drinking way too much coffee, and defending the Seattle Mariners to anyone who will listen.
